Butterscotch and Gingerbread...oh, and Curves.

No, not curves like ill lose all the good ones and get bad ones if i eat all the the cookies I baked last night...though that is the truth, fo sho...

I baked Butterscotch and gingerbread cookies last night. Its a longstanding tradition for me and I have been backing them every holiday season since highschool. Along with Peppermint/Chocolate swirly refrigirator cookies and snickerdoodles. And a pie or two.

Its amazing im not 300 lbs. I just feed the spoils to my friends. Haha.

Anyway, I am really very sorry I didn't take pictures of the process, but its super duper easy. Like Uber easy! I mean it. Just mix dry and wet separately (except sugar, mix that with the wet), then incorporate, make into tablespoon sized balls, and cook for ten minutes at 350. I wouldnt steer you wrong, would i?

Now just hold on while i get a picture of the finished product...unless Jrod ate them all for breakfast. He couldnt stop eating them last night. Theyre really sweet, but thats why boys and kids love them :P.
Haha! Yummy cookies! Now let me find the recipe... It is not of my own creation, rather something i found on AllRecipes when I was in high school that became a favorite of both me and friends.

Recipe (from this link, if you should want to see the original, there are reviews and commentary and a bunch of other fun stuff and recipes at this site)

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup light molasses
  • 1 (11 ounce) package NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Butterscotch Flavored Morsels

DIRECTIONS

  1. PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. COMBINE flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt in small bowl.
  3. BEAT butter, sugar, egg and molasses in large mixer bowl until creamy. Gradually beat in flour mixture until well blended. Stir in morsels. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
  4. BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

YUM :)

Happy Baking guys!

Good Samaritan

Last night was very cold, it snowed a bit, and I don't have a car, I ride the bus usually, and it made me think.

I got out of work early, and thought my boyfriend was going to pick me up, alot of people lent me their phones so I could call him to find out if he was or when he was, so I could make sure I wasn't stranded. It turned out I was lucky I called because I did need to ride the bus home, there had been some miscommunication (I was running on 2 hours of sleep) and he needed to go home to Saginaw. So I rode back to campus. Now, it was very very cold last night, and the bus ride from campus to my apartment is a pain, so on the way I dropped by my old dorm thinking "Well, I would give a friend a ride if it was cold and they didnt want to take a bus, why wouldn't one of my friends do the same for me." Apparently I think too highly of humanity, which I already knew. The lobby was filled with my friends, several of whom had cars, most of whom know im willing to give gas money if im given a ride somewhere. Especially if that somewhere is out of their way and for no reason of theirs. No one obliged. I didnt really think I needed to wave cash in their faces, how uncouth?!

So I walked away, mentioned briefly how i could have given them a little cash or compensation, and headed toward the bus stop, and a sweet girl came out of the woodworks to offer me a ride. She gave me a ride home, she was a freshman, first semester in the dorms. I offered her a few dollars and she refused to take it. But I left it with her anyway-- it was just the cash I had on me, I would have given her a little more, and kind of wish I had asked her if we could have gone by Exxon so I could have filled her tank at least half for giving me a ride on such a cold night. I don't really know her, but I'll give her something small for the holidays.

I was just so shocked that a girl I didn't even know offered to help me, but several of my friends who were hardly studying just mocked me when I was standing there asking for a ride kindly-- in a situation where I would have helped them. I guess I know who my true friends are.

Pasta Carbonara. Or, How to take ten years off your life in a tasty manner.

I may have mentioned before that I love love love to cook. So yesterday at the store, Jared picks up a roast and says, "Ill get this roast for later in the week if you do dinner tonight." I agreed, of course. I mean, I love to cook. He then proceeded to invite C, G, and D over. -.- At that point I looked at him (While choosing linguine) And said, "what am I, cooking a fucking feast?" ...Apparently.

So, I made Pasta carbonara. I got the recipe off of The Pioneer Woman the link to the recipe itself is here. I made it a tiny bit bigger, (I was feeding myself plus 4 sorta growing boys) and I forgot the parsley, a mistake I wont make again but it really didnt seem to make a difference because they all scarfed it down, and D scarfed down everything that was left in the big bowl, as well as everything that was left of everyone elses. -.- Double Steak Anialator, hahaha. Anyway, i would def make this recipe again, I love Ree's site, its fantastic.

A change in the tides

I thought of Amelie tonight, and what she did for me. Another blogger made me think of her.

The nuanced beauty that is in everything and so often ignored, is what the movie makes me think of

Tell me I am silly but I think I am going to cut sugar from my diet. I already have intentions of cutting HFCS, which I think I am going to start with...Then sugar, then move carbs to post-workout only...

I am still not sure what constitutes sugar, Is honey/agave sugar? What about splenda? Or other artificial sweeteners... I don't consume aspartame -- its the devil.

I just feel like I am not doing all I can for my body, I need to.

I am also unsure If I can keep away from the Pecan Pie at thanksgiving, I can ingest one of those whole in under five minutes.

Yummers.

Bill Nye the SCIENCE Guy.

So, i hold in my hand two miraculous tickets to BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY @ UNT <3. I was way obsessed with him as a kid, that and Wishbone. Could not get enough of PBS or whatever channel he was on...

I cant wait for thanksgiving. I am dying waiting for it, holiday from school and work AND I get to see my family-- whom I havn't seen in awhile. Grandma, Aunt, Uncle, Cousin, not to mention Mother Brother and Sister :).

I was asked to cook for thanksgiving, and thanks to the lovely Ms. Ree over at The Pioneer Woman I know some wonderful thanksgiving recipes. Seriously, check her out, that chocolate pie recipe is divine. Beyond that, I just don't know if I want to work that hard with other people who are less enthusiastic or perfectionistic about cooking than me, and, I don't like most thanksgiving food. I find it mostly bland or tasteless, filling for the sake of being filling, and who ever thought of green bean casserole as a GOOD idea...or that casserole with peas that looks like snot.

I like cranberries, especially when they are presented properly, and potatoes, not sweet potatoes, are yums..i also eat stuffing occasionally. But thats about it, I dont like turkey or sweet potatoes, or about a thousand ways most thanksgiving foods are presented. I like pecan pie for dessert but my family doesnt believe in hand making pies and things, they order them from a local bakery. So really, thanksgiving with family isnt about food, its just about family for me, and two days is just about the perfect amount of time to spend with them.

Master Cleanse, Day One. Part Two

Master Cleanse, Day One. Part One

So, I am doing the master cleanse. And Ive just started. For those of you who are in the out on what that is, its a minimum of a ten day cleanse. Ive just started it today, i skipped my first salt water flush because I woke up to close to work, but I drank some lemonade. I think I made it a bit spicy and sour, but I'll add some more syrup later. Anyway, that

parties and pigs

This weekend was a trip. I mean, a trip. Overall, I had a good time, fourth of July I ended up going to a little festival and watching a mediocre fireworks show, and that was fun. Most of it was because I enjoyed spending time with my dad. I really love doing that. I petted the horses and chilled in coffee shops, and me, P and K went to a party Saturday night. It was a fun party, and I had a good time. P and K left around 2 and I partied on until the early morning hours, eventually passing out and going out to IHOP with some friends in the early morning hours, and spending the early morning getting a few hours shuteye at T and D's apartment. From there, P and K picked me up, we went back to San Marcos, and shopped for a bit, just a bit :) and we left for Denton around 6. Needless to say, its a 5 hour drive with some traffic.

So why did it take ten hours?

Why. Why. WHY?

So, We came to the conclusion that God hates P and has cursed his car for driving down to Austin, particularly on holiday weekends.

Driving ten hours in a car is not fun, spending four of it in stop and go (mostly stop) traffic, is even worse, having a grumpy kitty in a carrier who needs to eat, piss, and probably shit, is pretty fucking bad as well.

Ce'st la Vie...right?

What a night- day- exploding semi that caught on fire and may as well have been a small neuclear weapon that got discharged onto the middle of 35.

When the Fat Lady Sings

I am visiting my father for 4th of July, which is nice, I havn't seen him since the dawn of time. He's been globetrotting in the name of business and I've been busy with school, something resembling a nonexistent job and in all honesty, I probably would have visited him sooner if I had had a car. But I dont- lack of transportation means I am stuck in my shit town. I am posting from Tantra, the local coffee shop. I have to say, its pretty hip, yes'm, I did indeedy did just say "pretty hip" but it is, i like the atmosphere of this place, but I like the atmosphere of incense filled-indie friendly-import from the east decorated coffeeshops apparently. 'scute. Right now I am sipping a drink called a "Busy bee" which I will probably try and fail to recreate later, yerba mate, oj, and honey, yum.

Have you ever noticed how some songs can put you into a really strange head space. Some songs do that to me, there was a song that did that about three songs ago, I forgot what it was. Maybe next time I hear one that does that I will write it down, It was the original reason I opened up my blog, because I wanted to jot down the song. Whatev.

Any who, plans for the rest of the day include a possible rodeo, which I can't decide if I am excited or apprehensive about. While I enjoy the country, I am not a country girl, and the last time I went to a rodeo I ended up getting knocked in the face with a fat lady's boobs, hard. Fat ladys boobs hurt in the face.

Plans for the rest of the weekend include a possible market, extortion, reading, outlet malls, a party, and family time. :)

Ciao and happy fourth!

Upon the Road We Go...

3.5=7.5 in the land of Iknidizibuzledub...maybe, but not on my home planet of earth. However, if the aforementioned statement is true, why did it take seven and a half hours to make it down to Austin from Denton?

Okay, so we had to stop in Plano and wait for K and pick her up from work.

And we also stopped in Dallas for Lunch/Dinner at Chilis.

And at a Brookshire Brothers in Lorena to pee.

But honestly, seven and a half fucking hours. Thats unreal.

Hopeline

This is important to me.

A night out on the town v1.0

So I just sent all my friends home and the birthday boy is crashed out on the couch. It was a nice bar run, although hardly anyone had anything to drink. V, the b-day boy and on the eve of his 21'st was reluctant to drink because of class at ten am the following (this) morning. But he got a little drunk. I had a drink at my house (crystal light mixes well with vodka) as well as a slut and a chocolate cake. By the way, the inventor of the chocolate cake shot is a genius, bite a lime and take a shot of frangelica I believe and it tastes just like chocolate cake, yum. Highly recomended. A was down with some sort of drama-- none of my beeswax really so I didnt butt in, her boyfriend handled it. All in all, a good run, a nice run, preluded to and finished out with some pulp fiction. I'm going to finish out this post with my top ten drinks and how to make them.

10)White Russian
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Coffee Liquor
light cream
-Pour vodka and coffee liqueur over ice cubes in an old-fashioned glass. Fill with light cream and serve.

Welcome To Saffron and Roses

I'm not sure what to write in this entry, but I wanted just a blog blog. Where I could post thoughts, ideas, links and recipes, and other girlie crap that I do on a daily basis. I figure that as a first entry this falls pretty lame, but I'm not sure what else to say.

Me and my roomie went down to Austin this last weekend and went to the bars, barton springs, and to some other random things. It was pretty chill, having never been to the austin bars but being an Austinite it was a nice experience. All the frat boys hit on my roomie cause shes tall and blonde. I'm going to dye my hair red, I've been talking about it for months, but I'm going to lose ten pounds and dye my hair red. Like hot stuff, natural gorgeous red. Yeah, thats the stuff.
